The elimination of all cases of the deadly Ebola disease in West Africa is the "only acceptable outcome", according to the outgoing head of the UN Mission for Ebola Emergency Response (UNMEER).
More than 7900 people have died from Ebola mainly in Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone.
Over 20,200 cases of the virus have also been confirmed.
The UNMEER chief, Anthony Banbury, says the number of predicted cases back in September was much higher than the actual number of cases today.
"We have a total of around 20,000 new cases instead of 1.4 million. That's 1.4 per cent of what was being projected as a possibility by credible scientists back in September. 1.4 per cent."
The new head of UNMEER is Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed of Mauritania.
He will take up the post on Saturday.
