WHO and the government of Sierra Leone, Guinea and Liberia launch a joint US$ 100 million response plan. WHO Director General, Dr Chan, attends a meeting in Conakry where the presidents of the three countries have gathered to discuss the public health emergency of unusual severity. During the meeting Dr Chan explains why WHO is so deeply concerned and stresses the need for them to take high-level responsibility for the response.
